Complete List of Free Strategies
At time of writing posts are in need of some final proof reading/light editing and adding of links.
The current versions cover all important info, there will just probably be slightly better versions later. Feel free to leave comments with any questions you have on the posts. These can be addressed in final edits, or in new posts for more detail.
Strategies by Category
Different tools for different jobs. Here are strategy posts organised by the types of conditions they are best used in.
Markets are usually doing one of a few things;
Ranging
Reversing
Breaking out
Retesting a breakout
Retracing inside of a breakout leg
A lot of things can happen in a noisy market but these are a set of things that happen repeatedly in markets and they are “Events” which we can aim to take advantage of.
We can look at the chart and see if we’re in one of these common repeatable conditions and apply the strategies we have for them.
Ranging
Markets spend a lot of time in ranges. During this time, strategies designed for trending concepts (Like breakouts) will become frustrating. Ranges are different.
Sometimes the best thing to do in a range is just wait. Things will be better later. Some of you may trade markets that are prone to range often (Indeed, some of you may want to trade ranges - they can be predictable) but they require entirely different strategy.
There is currently no content on trading ranges. There is some to come but if you’re in a hurry to learn about range based strategies our content is going to be heavily based on harmonic patterns. Largely just the common theory. You can get started learning about that through many mediums right now.
Reversing
Do you there we’re in a reversal? We’re probably not. Usually we’re going to reverse right after you stop thinking it’s a reversal. Just how the game seems to work.
Here’s a set of strategies aimed to give actionable rules to be able to determine small zones in which to bet on reversals. Good stop loss methods to cope with the fact reversals are tricky and ways to differentiate a pullback from a reversal.
Breaking out
Breakouts can be exciting, frantic times. Some of the easiest trades in the world come on jumping on big breakouts, but sadly a lot of breakout fail.
Here’s a set of strategies aimed helping to better define exactly how far a breakout should go to be actionable, what (If any) pullbacks do we expect. Is it better to enter now or wait for a retest? Some breakouts it makes a lot of sense to follow and others it makes a lot of sense to bet they fail. Tricky things, breakouts.
Retesting a breakout
The retesting of a previously broken support or resistance level can be a great trade. A real cornerstone concept in TA. But how do we know if it will hold?
Sometimes trading, especially with a trend, can be simple. Was just touch obvious breakout levels and then continue. During these times, we can print money with simple and highly effective continuation strategies. But even in the best of times we need ways to plan failure levels and targets to make this net profitable.
Retracing inside of a breakout leg
Corrections inside of a big breakout leg offer the most foreseeable low risk and high reward trades. Epic trades can be made if the trend continues, if you know where the correction ends.
Trading retracements inside of trend legs is my personal favourite situation. Not all trades work but there are ways to pick up optimal entries right at big turning points before a new trend leg develops and also we can spot failure of trend continuation patterns which help us to effectively switch to trading the reversal if that’s the better trade.
